Archers

Highly-trained bowmen who excel when unleashing rapid volleys of arrows to slow and supress cavalry charges.

There is little protection against the devastating power of a cavalry charge - the surest defence is to prevent enemy cavalry from even getting close to its target.

An unrelenting rain of arrows will slow even the bravest of horses and blunt the force of their charge, if not kill them outright. This requires archers of equal strength and accuracy; strength to pull back and load the bow, and accuracy to loose the arrow with quick precision.

Unit Abilities

  • Caltrops
    Simple nut husks, once trodden upon, cause extreme pain and slow movement.
  • Smoke Screen
    Thick plumes of smoke obscure line of sight, making units seem temporarily invisible.
  • Miasma
    The dense and tough undergrowth that plagues the jungles of the South is a hindrance to all those who try to penetrate into the heartlands of the Nanman.
  • Loose
    The unit spreads apart, making it more difficult for arrows to hit them.

    Can hide in forests.

Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Role: rear line
    These troops are best placed at the rear of an army, where they can cause damage from a position of relative safety.
  • Poor in melee
    This unit is poor when fighting hand-to-hand. Try to keep it away from enemy formations.
  • Weak against cavalry
    This unit is very vulnerable to cavalry charges, especially to the flanks.
