Heavy Crossbowmen

Heavily-armoured troops carrying long-range crossbows powerful enough to pierce enemy armour.

A crossbow does not require the upper body strength and skill needed of archers; the bolt is simply loaded into the chamber and fired directly at the target.

The bolts have more impact on their targets because of the increased draw-weight, and as they have the momentum to travel in a straight line, trajectory does not need to be calculated.

These troops are heavily armoured in iron, and in close combat use their zhibeidao swords to slash at the enemy.

Unit Abilities

  • Smoke Screen
    Thick plumes of smoke obscure line of sight, making units seem temporarily invisible.
  • Miasma
    The dense and tough undergrowth that plagues the jungles of the South is a hindrance to all those who try to penetrate into the heartlands of the Nanman.
  • Loose
    The unit spreads apart, making it more difficult for arrows to hit them.

Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Role: rear line
    These troops are best placed at the rear of an army, where they can cause damage from a position of relative safety.
  • Good against armour
    This unit's missiles are heavily tipped to drill through the strongest armour, but will still be deflected by shields.
  • Easily outmanoeuvred
    This unit is slower than others, meaning it can be outmanoeuvred and attacked in its vulnerable flanks.
