Mounted Sabre Militia

These mounted troops hunt down skirmishers; protecting against missiles with shields and using zhibeidao swords to chop at the enemy.

Militia are raised for emergency defence, and have less weapon training than warriors destined for the battlefield. Therefore, they are armed with zhibeidao swords, reliable, straight-bladed weapons that are easily mastered and used from horseback to swipe and slice at the enemy below.

As militia, they lack expensive or heavy armour, having only partial-leather, and are instead equipped with cheap, but durable rattan shields made from flexible rattan vines.

    The dense and tough undergrowth that plagues the jungles of the South is a hindrance to all those who try to penetrate into the heartlands of the Nanman.
  • Loose
    The unit spreads apart, making it more difficult for arrows to hit them.

Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Role: anti-missile
    A shielded and fast-moving unit that absorbs missile fire to charge into vulnerable missile units.
  • Missile defence
    These troops carry shields to protect them from incoming missiles, but offer little defence against artillery.
  • Cannot adopt advanced formations
    These soldiers are not disciplined enough to adopt advanced formations.
