Archer Militia

Archers equipped with composite bows for long-range harassment of enemies and basic zhibeidao swords for close combat defence.

Militia are recruited quickly, armed and mobilised in mass numbers, without spending much time on training before deployment. Any conscript who demonstrates some ability in archery is given a composite bow and enlisted as an archer.

These archers are considered useful to increase numbers, but less skilful than seasoned soldiers, and so are given zhibeidao swords for protection rather than armour.

These straight-bladed swords are cheap but easily mastered, making them the perfect weapon for militia troops.

Unit Abilities

  • Smoke Screen
    Thick plumes of smoke obscure line of sight, making units seem temporarily invisible.
  • Miasma
    The dense and tough undergrowth that plagues the jungles of the South is a hindrance to all those who try to penetrate into the heartlands of the Nanman.
  • Loose
    The unit spreads apart, making it more difficult for arrows to hit them.

    Can hide in forests.

Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Role: rear line
    These troops are best placed at the rear of an army, where they can cause damage from a position of relative safety.
  • Weak against cavalry
    This unit is very vulnerable to cavalry charges, especially to the flanks.
  • Cannot adopt advanced formations
    These soldiers are not disciplined enough to adopt advanced formations.
