Ji Infantry

Infantry armed with polearms to pierce the armour of heavy cavalry, while their armour protects them against enemy missiles.

To guard against a cavalry charge use the horse’s momentum and weight against them; brace long polearms at an angle and await the charge so the horses pierce themselves on the waiting defences.

A ji polearm has an angled blade attached to the top and a spear added to the tip, making it a versatile weapon for hooking and dismounting cavalry or slashing at riders.

While these troops brace themselves against cavalry charges, their own hides are protected by iron armour.

Unit Abilities

  • Caltrops
    Simple nut husks, once trodden upon, cause extreme pain and slow movement.
  • Miasma
    The dense and tough undergrowth that plagues the jungles of the South is a hindrance to all those who try to penetrate into the heartlands of the Nanman.
  • Hollowed Square
    The unit forms into a hollow square, presenting spears and pikes to any attacker - particularly cavalry - on all four sides.
  • Loose
    The unit spreads apart, making it more difficult for arrows to hit them.
  • Spear Wall
    The unit presents a wall of spear-points to the enemy - a strong formation that allows the unit to advance slowly but safely whilst defending against charges.

Attributes

  • CHARGE REFLECTION VS. MOUNTED
    Reflects the charge damage of any mounted attacker back onto them when braced.
  • HIDE IN FOREST
    Can hide in forests.

Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Role: all-rounder
    Be it on the frontline, flanking, or when manning ordnance, this versatile unit excels in most positions.
  • Good against mounted
    This unit is trained to fight against mounted enemies.
  • Weak against missile attacks
    This unit is unshielded and therefore has little defence against missile attacks.
