Whilst bowmen require training and physical prowess, crossbowmen need only load, point and shoot - the mechanism of the weapon does the rest. The bolt punches faster and harder than a bow, and can be used effectively by peasants and noblemen alike, making the crossbow truly deadly in anyone's hands.

Sima Jiong's crossbowmen are an impressive, resplendently-armoured sight on the battlefield, and the prowess they display with their weapons gives pause to even the most armoured of attackers.

Unit Abilities

  • Miasma
    The dense and tough undergrowth that plagues the jungles of the South is a hindrance to all those who try to penetrate into the heartlands of the Nanman.
  • Loose
    The unit spreads apart, making it more difficult for arrows to hit them.

  • DISCIPLINED
    Does not suffer a morale penalty when the general dies. It can also rally after routing more often.
  • HIDE IN FOREST
    Can hide in forests.

Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Role: rear line
    These troops are best placed at the rear of an army, where they can cause damage from a position of relative safety.
  • Good against armour
    This unit's missiles are heavily tipped to drill through the strongest armour, but will still be deflected by shields.
  • Poor in melee
    This unit is poor when fighting hand-to-hand. Try to keep it away from enemy formations.
