Qi Guardsmen

Movement is its own form of strength. What this unit may lack in armour it makes up for in versatility.

Guardsmen hold the line; that is their sole duty. Armed with a ji polearm - a halberd, or 'dagger axe' - they are able to both thrust and stab defensively, but also cleave and grab their enemies thanks to the lunged hook on the side of the spear's blade.

Guardsmen are defensible, but relatively mobile, lacking the heavy armour of some other spearmen. All the same, in the name of Sima Jiong, they stand ready to hold back the onslaught of any foe.

Unit Abilities

  • Miasma
    The dense and tough undergrowth that plagues the jungles of the South is a hindrance to all those who try to penetrate into the heartlands of the Nanman.
  • Hollowed Square
    The unit forms into a hollow square, presenting spears and pikes to any attacker - particularly cavalry - on all four sides.
  • Loose
    The unit spreads apart, making it more difficult for arrows to hit them.
  • Spear Wall
    The unit presents a wall of spear-points to the enemy - a strong formation that allows the unit to advance slowly but safely whilst defending against charges.

Attributes

  • CHARGE REFLECTION VS. MOUNTED
    Reflects the charge damage of any mounted attacker back onto them when braced.
  • DISCIPLINED
    Does not suffer a morale penalty when the general dies. It can also rally after routing more often.
  • HIDE IN FOREST
    Can hide in forests.

Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Role: all-rounder
    Be it on the frontline, flanking, or when manning ordnance, this versatile unit excels in most positions.
  • Good against mounted
    This unit is trained to fight against mounted enemies.
  • Good armour
    Heavy armour protects this unit from most damage, but armour-piercing weapons will still pose a threat to them.
