Fury of Beihai

These elite soldiers are armed with long-range crossbows powerful enough to pierce armour.

Archery takes years of training and immense upper-body strength to be able to draw back the string to the nocking point. Firing a crossbow needs the user to be taught only how to load a bolt and point it. Unlike notching an arrow, a crossbow bolt can be loaded easily, and once loaded, can be held until the user is ready to fire.

Despite its ease of use, the draw weight increases the bolts speed and power when released, meaning that less skilled troops can be armed but still prove deadly on the battlefield.

Unit Abilities

  • Smoke Screen
    Thick plumes of smoke obscure line of sight, making units seem temporarily invisible.
  • Miasma
    The dense and tough undergrowth that plagues the jungles of the South is a hindrance to all those who try to penetrate into the heartlands of the Nanman.
  • Loose
    The unit spreads apart, making it more difficult for arrows to hit them.

  • DISCIPLINED
    Does not suffer a morale penalty when the general dies. It can also rally after routing more often.
  • HIDE IN FOREST
    Can hide in forests.

Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Role: skirmishers
    Skirmishers serve to distract and soften up enemy troops, and are almost impossible to run down as they harass their targets.
  • Good against armour
    This unit's missiles are heavily tipped to drill through the strongest armour, but will still be deflected by shields.
  • Weak against cavalry
    This unit is very vulnerable to cavalry charges, especially to the flanks.
