Defenders of Earth

Elite archers hand-picked by the emperor for their versatility and excellence.

Only the very finest warriors are chosen for the honour of serving the emperor as frontline troops. Archers of exceptional talent who also show skill with the deadly jian sword are recommended to the emperor as Defenders of Earth.

If they pass inspection, they are rewarded with uniquely-crafted jian swords and composite bows to fight on the frontline. Their arrows have small pots of flammable oil affixed to them; the fuses are lit, and the arrow loosed to rain down fire upon their enemies.

Unit Abilities

  • Smoke Screen
    Thick plumes of smoke obscure line of sight, making units seem temporarily invisible.
  • Miasma
    The dense and tough undergrowth that plagues the jungles of the South is a hindrance to all those who try to penetrate into the heartlands of the Nanman.
  • Loose
    The unit spreads apart, making it more difficult for arrows to hit them.

Attributes

  • DISCIPLINED
    Does not suffer a morale penalty when the general dies. It can also rally after routing more often.
  • HIDE IN FOREST
    Can hide in forests.
  • IMMUNE TO SCARE
    Immune to scare effects.

Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Role: bombardment
    Ordnance units excel at scything down enemies, particularly when on high ground and protected by infantry.
  • Oil arrows
    This unit's oil arrows spatter flame over their targets upon impact, causing devastation over a larger area.
  • Good in melee
    While the bow is this unit's primary weapon, it can also hold its own in melee.
