Casket of Souls

When the souls are released, they endeavour not to return without new victims to torment for eternity.

At the heart of each tomb of the mightiest king there lies a casket, inscribed with hieroglyphs of malediction. Within this sarcophagus resides the tormented souls of those who have incited a Tomb King's wrath. Powerful binding inscriptions ensure that these souls cannot leave their prison until the moment when the casket is opened. When a Casket of Souls is opened, blinding light spills across the battlefield as countless souls scream into the air seeking freedom from the suffering of their confinement. These spirits plunge through the bodies of the Tomb Kings' enemies, and the hapless victims suffer unbearable agony as their life essence is utterly drained. To die thus is far worse than a physical death, for the very souls of those who perish in this manner become ensnared by the power of the casket. A Casket of Souls is a devastating weapon, for all who look upon it risk eternal damnation and imprisonment.

Abilities

  • Covenant of Power
The magical power surrounding the Casket of Souls allows the Liche Priests to infuse their incantations with a portion of its energy.
  • Disintegrating
The Dark Magic that holds these subjects together has failed. As the necromantic energy flows out of them, nothing is left but a pile of iron and bones in the sand.
  • Crumbling
In the blasted desert of deepest Nehekhara, the dead rarely remain so. Those dragged back to screaming, clanking Unlife are bound forever to the Tomb King whose will they exist only to serve.
  • Wounds
Even the greatest foes can be laid low with terrible injuries, and the greater the damage done, the less able they will be to effectively continue the fray.
    Speed x 90%
    Armour-Piercing Weapon Damage x 80%
    Base Weapon Damage x 80%

Attributes

  • Causes Fear
This unit frightens all enemy units, reducing their leadership when nearby. It is also immune to fear. Fear penalties do not stack.
  • Hide (forest)
This unit can hide in forests until enemy units get too close.
  • Undead
This unit is Undead (does not rout, immune to terror, becomes unstable when {{tr:morale}} is low).

Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Armoured
Armoured units can block damage from any source apart from Armour-Piercing damage.
  • Armour-Piercing Missiles
The damage of armour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
  • Light of Death
The Keeper of the Casket may allow some of the tormented spirits trapped inside to escape; not for mercy, but to let the damned souls rain down upon a loosely-specified area.
