Thesprotian Chthonic Champions
The sight of Hades’ champions inspires fear in the heart of even the most steadfast foe.The Thesprotians were the Epirotic tribe charged with servicing the Necromonteion. They were considered the most famous of the Epirotic tribe and ruled the state along with the Molossians after the fall of the early Chaonian ruling class. Thesprotian elite often vied for the favor of their patron god by petitioning the Oracle by positive omens. Elaborate animal ritual sacrifice, narcotic-induced trances, and (of course) generous bribes ensured that Hades conferred strength of arms and the extirpation of the fear of death from their sons as they strode into battle. The greatest of these warriors returned to serve as Hades' chosen champions, standing guard over the literal mouth of the Hells. When called to battle, the very site of these men clad in black armor, sporting the silver Aspis emblazoned with the symbol of their god, struck fear in to the hearts of even the most steadfast enemy.
