Thessalian Expatrii Cavalry

Reliable sarissa-armed cavalry with a powerful charge.

Despite long standing border conflicts, the relationship between the ruling class of Epirus and Macedon was longstanding. Alexander I of Epirus, uncle of Alexander the Great, was placed on the throne of Epirus by Phillip II. Pyrhhus himself spent time in Thessaly in his youth and counted on the support of Thessalian nobles during his bid for power in the Peloponnese after the collapse of Macedonian power in the wars of the Diadochi. Thessalian cavalry marched with the Epirote King during his invasion of Macedon (likely out of dissatisfaction with King Demetrius due his murder of Alexander V), though it is unlikely many remained loyal as Pyrhhus slashed his way through Thessaly and laid siege to Thebes. Still, it is highly likely that Epirote kings could rely on these heavy Macedonian cavalry as they prosecuted war against enemies of the Hellenic people.
