Although there is wisdom in not overbearing soldiery with too many arms, these warriors prove their right to march with spear, crossbow and shield in hand. Certainly not a task for the untrained, these elite warriors take up formations behind their shields and patiently wait for the enemy.

When faced with imminent melee, they unleash a devastating crossbow volley from between their shields before bracing their spears against the onslaught to come.

Unit Abilities

• Hollowed Square
  The unit forms into a hollow square, presenting spears and pikes to any attacker - particularly cavalry - on all four sides.
• Miasma
  The dense and tough undergrowth that plagues the jungles of the South is a hindrance to all those who try to penetrate into the heartlands of the Nanman.
• Loose
  The unit spreads apart, making it more difficult for arrows to hit them.
• Mixed Spear
  The unit splits into missiles at the back, in rows, with melee in front protecting them.
• Shield Wall (Spear)
  The unit presents a wall of shields to the enemy - an offensive formation best used to push forward under arrow fire.

  Reflects the charge damage of any mounted attacker back onto them when braced.
• DISCIPLINED
  Does not suffer a morale penalty when the general dies. It can also rally after routing more often.

  Can hide in forests.
• IMMUNE TO SCARE
  Immune to scare effects.
