Libyan Spearmen

Diese Truppen, welche von phönizischen Siedlern und den Lebu-, Garamanten- und Berbervölkern der Sahara abstammten, bildeten den Hauptteil der karthagischen Nichtsöldner-Einheiten. Die Phönizier begannen um das 1. Jahrtausend v. Chr. mit der Kolonialisierung der afrikanischen Küste und gründeten Karthago und zwei andere Städte, die später als Leptis Magna und Sabratha bekannt wurden. Die wichtigen Handelszentren fungierten neben dem durch die Karthager gegründeten Tingis und der griechischen Kolonie Kyrene als Tor nach Afrika und dem westlichen Mittelmeerraum. Ab dem 5. Jahrhundert standen die drei libyschen Städte jedoch unter Herrschaft und Schutz von Karthago und dessen merkantiler Dominanz. Beeinflusst durch östliche und saharische Bräuche und den Handel mit dem Mittelmeerraum, hatten die Liby-Phönizier zahlreiche unterschiedliche Kleidungsstile und Ausrüstungen.
