İçtima Alanı

Vatandaşlar, tebaa askerler, askere alınanlar ve leviler burada talim ve savaş için içtima etmelidir.

Yurttaş ya da tebalarından faydalanıp, onları paralı askerlerle destekleyen Helen devletleri, savaş zamanında birlikleri hızlı bir biçimde toplayabiliyordu. Generaller genellikle oy birliğiyle seçilmiş yetkililerdi ve soylu sınıftan geliyordu. Atina'da, askeri birlikler, eğitim halindeki efebler ve daha yaşlı erkek yurttaşlardan oluşuyor, seçilmiş on strategos ya da savaş bakanı tarafından yönetiliyordu.

Başlangıçta hoplit olan bu kişiler, Büyük İskender'in modelini benimseyerek, zaman içinde hypaspist, falangit ve thureophoros haline gelmişlerdi. Bu değişiklik, aynı zamanda, daha profesyonel ve paralı askerlerden oluşan birlikleri beraberinde getirdi. Atlara gücü yeten servet sahibi yurttaşlar, İskender modelini izleyerek, hippei yani hafif süvari olmayı tercih ederlerdi. Trakyalılar, İskit yayıyla kuşanmış Atina polisi ya da Kleopatra'nın Galatyalı kraliyet muhafızları gibi paralı askerler, içtima edilmiş bu birlikleri destekliyordu.
