For the most part, they wear flexible Greek-style leather armour, with scales made from iron, bronze, or more commonly bone or horn, which is easier to collect and shape.

They wear a Greek-style scaled linothorax, a small crescent or rectangular shield made with iron lamellar plates, greaves, and Greek helmets.

The Sarmatised" Scythian kontos bearers are a pure product of this evolution. They still use close-combat weapons and their bow as the main armament in any occasion."

Scythian and Sarmatian heavy mounted skirmishers carry large shields, a bunch of javelins, and leather and scale armour. They are skilled and can also fight dismounted with various weapons, but the most common are the sagaris battle-axe and the akinakes.
