Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de lanciers / (ger_lugii_guard_spearmen) Koisi Toutaginoi (Lugian Bodyguard Spearmen) These guards are an elite formation composed of 'picked men,' recruited by war chiefs, who in turn are retained by district chieftains in order to bolster their levies. Overall, the trends in the development of armaments, reflected by the Toutaginos unit, as with the evolution of the battle tactics in general, are of course based on the progressive proliferation of iron. |

Devoting their lives to war, they are aged, very experienced, and finely educated warriors, using similar tactics and equipment to their noble Celtic counterparts. They fight with spears and high-quality longswords. |

Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (Ger_Baltic_Light_Infantry) Kirslininkas (Baltic Light Axemen) The western Balts know and use iron, and are wealthy from the amber trade. Thus, they are probably able to field a regular army in times of need. Armed with iron-tipped spears and battle axes, the Kirslininkas (Axemen) take part in the wars and battles of the northern lands. |

Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (Ger_Elite_Assault_Infantry) Nokwlentoi (Night Fighters) The club is humankind's earliest weapon and throughout history warriors have taken great pride in facing a well-armed enemy with only the most primitive weapons. With such a weapon at hand, the Nokwlentoi strip down to their breeches, gather in the pitch-black of night and prepare to fight as a ghastly horde of demons: a tactic devised to incite great fear in their enemies. |

Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (Ger_Elite_Medium_Swordsmen_early) Warowinoi (Elite Medium Swordsmen) This unit is comprised of a small number of well-armed men bound to war and the leaders of great renown that command them. Into battle the Warowinoi wear the common garb; leather shoes, belt, a drab wool shirt and trousers. For protection they use a leather hooded-shoulder cape, a leather tunic, and a large leather-covered oval or subrectangular planked-wood shield. A few might sport a thick leather skull cap, whilst most are proud to cover their heads with nothing but too-long wildly unkempt hair. |

Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (ger_lugii_baltic_clubmen) Perkwunas (Baltic Clubmen) The warriors in this unit are not necessarily poor, but rather choose to fight with the club instead of the spear. Most are armed with a wooden club, but some prefer an axe of the socketed variety. For protection, these warriors only use a lightweight wooden shield. Some have a reinforced metal shield boss and some metal shield rim protection, but most do not. |

Infanterie lance-projectiles / Infanterie lance-projectiles / (Ger_Lugii_Heavy_Skirmishers) Nakwadaz (Eastern Germanic Medium Skirmishers) These naked spearmen are the Germanic replica of the Gaisates, except that they use more crude weapons, the framea being too expensive and heavy to be carried by a skirmisher. However, they are still heavy skirmishers, relying on their speed to outflank the enemy, before launching their missiles in the hope of causing disarray within the enemy ranks. They fight nude or half-nude to preserve freedom of movement, and keep a framea for close combat if needed. |

Infanterie lance-projectiles / Infanterie lance-projectiles / (Ger_Lugii_Skrmishers) Moldoi (Eastern Germanic Skirmishers) The young men of the Moldoi units follow war chiefs, proven leaders in battle. They are protected by only a cloak and a rectangular wood-plank shield. They are armed with fire-hardened javelins, and a short knife. This type of unit often acts as the home guard or is used to raid the unprotected herds and farmsteads of their enemies. |

Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de piquiers / (Ger_Lugii_Pikemen) Gaizaharjoz (Eastern Germanic Pikemen) Gaizaharjoz are very disciplined warriors who fight in a dense formation. They use a Germanic lance - the Speutan, a deadly and intimidating weapon with a very long spearhead. During their years of constant battle with hostile nations, they've developed new strategies for combat and defense, and learned early on to form an impenetrable burdahagon (shield-wall) to repel their attackers. |

Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de lanciers / (Ger_Baltic_Light_Spearmen) Karas Viras (Baltic Light Spearmen) The eastern Balts remain semi-nomadic, with rare, scattered settlements on hills. These settlements, called Gardas, have a class of warriors called Karas Viras, who are dedicated to defending them, and attacking other similar settlements. These men are armed with wooden spears, javelins, and bronze axes, as the eastern Balts do not often use iron. |
