Iberian Techniques

In order to maintain a powerful army, the Islamic rulers of Al-Andalus augmented their army with troops drawn from the local, population, who brought their own unique skills and flavours to the table. The Andalusians had been breeding the Andalusian warhorse for centuries, a powerful breed with a long, history of successful combat. This addition to the Muslim roster was beneficial at a time when their cavalry forces were faltering by comparison with those of other armies of the period. These Iberian men rode in a much less 'civilised' manner than their European counterparts, using basic saddles and stirrups, yet the zeal and fervour they showed in battle more than made up for any technical deficiencies they may have had.
