Imperial Transport Service

From shore to shore, across road or mountain, the Empire will get you there.

The Imperial Transport Service, or 'Cursus Publicus', was a transportation and delivery service, officially run by the Roman state. It was birthed by Augustus to facilitate the transportation of taxes and officials across Italy, but soon expanded across other major provinces, such as Egypt and into Thracia. This service was invaluable to the army, who were able to send missives back to their superiors and request reinforcements before a situation became untenable. Although the cost of running the service was high, it survived late into antiquity, and after Rome's collapse was adopted by the Ostrogoths who, although reducing its scope, maintained the route within Italy.
