Mercenary Infantry

Infantry-for-hire, they easily weather hot climates and are best used to capture key strategic points on the battlefield.

Victory in battle is decided not only on the strength and skills of soldiers, but on strategic control of the field. These mercenaries fight for gold, not out of loyalty, so when ordered to capture a key strategic point they put all efforts towards it or risk not getting paid.

Offering their services to the highest bidder, their travels have acclimatised them to even the most punishing heat. Upon accepting a contract, they arrive fully equipped with fine leather armour, rattan shields and good quality fu axes.

Unit Abilities

  • Caltrops
    Simple nut husks, once trodden upon, cause extreme pain and slow movement.
  • Smoke Screen
    Thick plumes of smoke obscure line of sight, making units seem temporarily invisible.
  • Miasma
    The dense and tough undergrowth that plagues the jungles of the South is a hindrance to all those who try to penetrate into the heartlands of the Nanman.
  • Circle
    The unit forms into a tight circle, presenting a defensive front from any angle.
  • Loose
    The unit spreads apart, making it more difficult for arrows to hit them.
  • Shield Wall
    The unit presents a wall of shields to the enemy - an offensive formation best used to push forward under arrow fire. However the formation cannot be maintained in melee combat.

    Takes longer to feel fatigued in the desert.

    This unit excels at charging enemy frontlines, slaying all in their path.
  • Good against shields
    This unit causes extra damage against shielded enemies.
  • Weak against cavalry
    This unit is very vulnerable to cavalry charges, especially to the flanks.
