Nizagan Bakhtarig

Estos lanceros eran reclutados de entre los individuos de las regiones orientales. No resultaban caros e iban armados con una lanza, un escudo de mimbre y una armadura de tela. Sus escudos eran ovalados o rectangulares y poseían una agarradera central. Aunque en su mayoría iban equipados de la misma manera, su apariencia variaba bastante según la zona de donde habían sido reclutados y, en ellos, se podía apreciar todo tipo de influencias griegas y persas. En el campo de batalla, los lanceros defendían los flancos de las falanges u ofrecían protección a escaramuzadores y arqueros. Aunque no iban bien equipados para enfrentarse a las tropas pesadas, su gran número y sus afiladas lanzas resultaban una manera efectiva de frenar a una caballería sin armadura. Solían estar presentes, como mercenarios y unidades de leva, por toda Anatolia y Oriente Medio.
