Nizagan Bakhtarig

Diese Speerträger setzten sich aus Untertanen der östlichen Regionen zusammen. Sie waren kostengünstig und einfach ausgerüstet mit einem Speer, einem Korbschild und einer Stoffrüstung. Ihre Schilde waren oval oder rechteckig und besaßen in der Mitte einen Griff. Trotz ihrer größtenteils einheitlichen Ausrüstung hing ihr Erscheinungsbild sehr vom Rekrutierungsort ab und es zeigten sich griechische und persische Einflüsse. Auf dem Schlachtfeld wachten Speerkämpfer über die Flanken einer Phalanx oder gaben leichteren Plänklern oder Bogenschützen Schutz. Zum Kampf gegen schwere feindliche Infanterie fehlte ihnen die nötige Ausrüstung, doch dank ihrer großen Zahl und Speere konnten sie ungepanzerte Kavallerie effektiv abwehren. In Kleinasien und dem Nahen Osten waren sie auch eine verbreitete Art von Söldnern und Heerbanneinheiten.
