Bogaczom wykształcenie przydaje się bardziej niż wino...

W Atenach Lykeion lub Liceum było miejscem spotkań, nazwano je na cześć Apollina Likejosa, patrona gaju, w którym się znajdowało. Najbardziej znane jest z faktu, że odbywały się tam debaty szkoły perypatetycznej Arystotelesa. Filozof zgromadził dużą kolekcję zwojów, które stanowiły podwaliny dla powstania tej wczesnej biblioteki. Arystoteles uczył też faraonów Egiptu, jak organizować ich własne biblioteki. Publiczne biblioteki były wtedy rzadkością, gdyż większość ksiąg znajdowało się w zbiorach bogaczy. Pierwsza oficjalna publiczna biblioteka powstała w Aleksandrii – znajdowało się w niej około 750 tys. zwojów. Jej odpowiednik w Pergamonie posiadał ich „tylko” 200 tysięcy.
