L'organisation des soldats enrôlés demande de la planification et de l'espace.

Rassembler une force demandait une organisation précise. Les enrôlés devaient souvent fournir leurs propres armes, telles que des lances et des boucliers, voire mêmes des javelots et des arcs. Dans le cas contraire, ils se faisaient équiper aux frais des caisses de l'État. Cela prenait du temps et il était plus simple d'apprêter tout le monde dans des camps temporaires.

Selon les circonstances et la population, on construisait des baraquements ou des casernes permanentes pour les enrôlés. Les troupes basées dans les casernes pouvaient servir de gardes de la ville, patrouiller sur les frontières ou surveiller les routes commerciales. Même ainsi, des enrôlés appelés sous les bannières ne recevaient qu'un entraînement dérisoire. De plus, leur équipement était plus léger que celui des soldats nobles, professionnels ou mercenaires.

1	300	Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (ind_axemen) Parasudharah (Indian Axemen) These axe-bearers are not guards, but regular soldiers. They wield long two-handed iron axes with wooden or bamboo handles. Since they wear little to no armour and do not carry shields, they are vulnerable to missile fire, but their halberd-like poleaxes can cut through infantry and cavalry alike. Axemen like these can be seen on grave paintings in the Ajanta Caves.

2	200	Infanterie lance-projectiles / Infanterie lance-projectiles / (ind_longbowmen) Capadhara Yoddhr (Indian Longbowmen) These men are armed with the weapon most closely associated with the ancient Indian warrior: the longbow. These archers can use their bows with great efficiency, and though they may not have the best aim, the power and range of their weapons more than makes up for this, and their broadswords make them more capable in melee than most archers.

3	200	Infanterie lance-projectiles / Infanterie lance-projectiles / (ind_southern_mercs) Dravida Bharya (Dravidian Mercenaries) The word Dravidian comes from the Sanskrit term dravida, which means southern. These Dravidian tribal warriors wear simple loincloths, or even skirts made out of plants, and are armed with simple spears and bows. While not directly subjects of the emperor, a substantial part of Mauryan armies consists of auxiliary troops levied from allied kingdoms and subservient tribes, used to bolster the size of the army.

4	300	Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (ind_swordsmen) Ksatriya Khadgacarmadharas (Indian Swordsmen) Armed with big chopping swords and tall shields, these swordsmen are the shock infantry of Indian armies. The kukri swords they wield have a curved shape, resembling the Greek kopis, but are bigger. They are likely the product of Hellenic influences on Indian armament, where the Indians have adapted the shape to fit other purposes as well.

5	300	Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de lanciers / (ind_veteran_spearmen) Sathriya Leetipadai (Pandyan Spearmen) These battle-hardened veteran spearmen are recruited from more elder Kshatriyas. They are useful as flank-guards, advance guards for the archers, and reserves behind the swordsmen, in case any foe, especially horsemen, should get the better of them.
