Hameau barbare (roche calcaire)

Les historiens romains et grecs décrivirent souvent les tribus barbares comme des peuples errants qui vivaient pour la chasse et ne connaissaient pas grand chose à l'agriculture et la construction. C'était très loin de la vérité. Un nombre de structures ont été découvertes et indiquent que les soi-disant barbares maîtrisaient les techniques de constructions et pouvaient bâtir des habitations et des défenses qui survécurent durant des milliers d'années.

Les Brochs, bâtiments de pierre sèche trouvés en Écosse, résistèrent au climat difficile et donnent des informations intéressantes quant à ceux qui les ont construits. Certains comportaient plusieurs étages et les historiens ne sont pas encore sûrs de leur usage : ils pouvaient être des structures défensives mais aussi des bâtiments de prestige, symbolisant fortune et puissance.

They are peasants levied for war and trained for a time with warriors. They are poorely equipped for the most part, relying on their wooden shields for protection, and using a spear for defence and close fighting.

3	300	Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de lanciers / (bel_peasants) Atecti (Belgae Peasants) With a wicker shield and a spear, these peasants are useful and cheap to muster. They have few truly military tasks. They act as a rearguard, mostly to protect the baggage train on campaign, and to support the more experienced Bagaudas in a line. But these men are not experienced and have no training, so they are more useful as a local defence militia.

4	300	Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (bel_shortswordsmen) Kluddobro (Belgae Shortswordsmen) The Kluddobro are young but skilled warriors, acting on the wings with other Excingoi (flank warriors). They have several tasks, but mostly to outflank the enemy center and then disrupt the enemy lines.
