Les chevaux jouaient un rôle important dans la société celtique, à la fois pour des raisons spirituelles et pratiques. De nombreux écrivains romains admirent librement que les Celtes étaient d'excellents cavaliers et allèrent même jusqu'à qualifier les mercenaires celtiques de meilleurs cavaliers de l'armée romaine. Les Romains adoptèrent même une déité celtique dans l'espoir qu'elle donne à Rome le savoir et les compétences équestres des Celtes. Épone est l'une des rares divinités qui fut acceptée au Panthéon romain telle quelle, même si son rôle évolua avec le temps. Elle finit par protéger tous ceux qui travaillaient avec des chevaux, et non plus seulement les animaux eux-mêmes. Elle était populaire dans la cavalerie romaine et son culte se répandit dans toute l'Europe, partout où les Romains avaient des garnisons de cavalerie.

The beltistai's loyalty is unquestionable and their ferocity unmatched. Indeed, the Ktistai are so close to the king, that his royal successor will either be chosen from their ranks, or become pontifex maximus of the priesthood. Those recruited for the Beltistai Korps must have been trained from infancy, and the secretive nature of their order will render them ideal for the purposes of any strong ruler.

They ride into battle in studded leather armour and trousers, and carry javelins and short swords. Their nimble horses allow for very good performance in any type of terrain; they are often used to screen flanks and pursue broken enemy formations.

3	100	Cavalerie / Cavalerie de mêlée / (Dac_Med_Cavalry) Tarabostes (Dacian Cavalry) The Tarabostes are mounted warbands comprised of warriors, usually veterans, attached to a war chief. They often form the main volunteer force for pillaging raids. Attached to the Getic nobility, these warriors often have better equipment than their fellow Getic warriors. They are armoured with chainmail and large oval shields. They carry a spear and the sica blade. They are fearsome, well-armoured, all-round cavalry that look upon war as a class affair.

They carry no armour to speak of, except small round shields, and are armed with slings and a dagger. They are usually very young men and their role is merely to try and force the enemy into acting rashly; however, troops lacking armour can still pay dearly facing when them.
