I cavalli avevano un ruolo importante nella società dei Celti, sia spiritualmente che praticamente. Molti scrittori romani ammettevano liberamente che i Celti fossero dei gran cavalieri e si spinsero fino al punto di dichiarare che i mercenari celti rappresentassero la miglior cavalleria di tutto l’esercito romano. I Romani finirono anche con l’adottare una divinità celtica nella speranza che questa regalasse ai Romani la stessa sapienza in fatto di equini che aveva regalato ai Celti. Epona è una delle poche divinità ad essere accettata nel pantheon romano senza subire cambiamenti, sebbene il suo ruolo si sia evoluto nel tempo. Proteggeva infatti tutti coloro che lavoravano con i cavalli, e non solo gli animali stessi. Era una divinità molto popolare tra i cavalieri romani, e il suo culto si diffuse in tutta Europa, ovunque i Romani avessero guarnigioni di cavalleria.

The beltistai's loyalty is unquestionable and their ferocity unmatched. Indeed, the Ktistai are so close to the king, that his royal successor will either be chosen from their ranks, or become pontifex maximus of the priesthood. Those recruited for the Beltistai Korps must have been trained from infancy, and the secretive nature of their order will render them ideal for the purposes of any strong ruler.

They ride into battle in studded leather armour and trousers, and carry javelins and short swords. Their nimble horses allow for very good performance in any type of terrain; they are often used to screen flanks and pursue broken enemy formations.

3	100	Cavalleria / Cavalleria corpo a corpo / (Dac_Med_Cavalry) Tarabostes (Dacian Cavalry) The Tarabostes are mounted warbands comprised of warriors, usually veterans, attached to a war chief. They often form the main volunteer force for pillaging raids. Attached to the Getic nobility, these warriors often have better equipment than their fellow Getic warriors. They are armoured with chainmail and large oval shields. They carry a spear and the sica blade. They are fearsome, well-armoured, all-round cavalry that look upon war as a class affair.

They carry no armour to speak of, except small round shields, and are armed with slings and a dagger. They are usually very young men and their role is merely to try and force the enemy into acting rashly; however, troops lacking armour can still pay dearly facing when them.
