The sea-road leads to the wider world. Many ancient civilisations relied on naval power, both mercantile and military, to maintain their empires. At its height, the Seleucid Empire reached the Persian Gulf, the Caspian Sea, and the Mediterranean, where its trade influence spread into the Black Sea beyond. Closer to home, fish were a vital food resource for many cultures, supplementing agriculture especially in arid coastal regions. In comparison to the dangers of drought and flood that could destroy crops, fish were a resource that could be relied upon whatever the weather.

Equipped with bows and spears, these men are able to provide an army with ranged support while also acting as light spearmen. It has one and a half rows of oars, making it faster and more powerful than earlier uniremes. (East Coast Levies) These raiders and pirates dominate the military stage of Eastern Arabia. They are light infantry equipped with padded armour worn over their tunics and wicker shields, giving them some protection against arrows. They are swift, agile troops, and their spears give them an edge against light cavalry. |
