Mamlaktha Nabata Minor Settlement (Purple Dye) Level 1
Eastern Hamlet
A small community founded for common goals and in shared beliefs.Small farming settlements were the backbone of ancient civilisations in the east, feeding the great cities such as Antioch and Seleucia. Situated to exploit good land, fishing, mining or quarrying, defence was often too expensive to be more than a secondary consideration. As the populations of the great cities increased, surplus food from these farming communities became essential. As small military garrisons were positioned to protect valuable resources and trade routes, there was a slow growth of many hamlets into towns, as people and trade passed.

Melee Infantry / Spear Infantry / (Ara_Levy_Spear) Muqrabe Lukhata (Arabian Spearmen) These men are not levies per se, and are generally superior to pantodapoi and such eastern spear levies, having lived in the harsh desert and having experienced a raid or two in their time. |

Melee Infantry / Spear Infantry / (nab_bedouin_spearmen) Istrate Bedawi (Bedouin Spearmen) Most people settle near rivers, but the Bedouin people prefer to live in the open desert. These spearmen can be expected to do their job well as light infantry, but their lack of armour means they will have problems facing more heavily equipped infantry. |

Melee Infantry / Spear Infantry / (nab_levy_spearmen) Istratin (Nabataean Levy Spearmen) These urbanites are the core of the Nabataean military machine. Armed with sturdy spears and leather or wicker shields, these men are far more capable of holding the line of battle than their lighter counterparts in tribal levies. |

Missile Infantry / Missile Infantry / (nab_slingers) Muqala'in (Nabataean Slingers) Slingers are common in Arabian armies, being levied from the nomadic tribes. These men are mostly lower class herders. The tribesmen are not wealthy, so they march to war in only their simple garments, carrying a light shield and their own, often homemade sling, in addition to a dagger for self-defence. |
