Bards' Grove
Many voices raised as one: the voice of the people.Little is known for certain of the ways and practices of the ancient druids. Classical writers stated that these mysterious men refused to write their secrets down, preferring to pass their knowledge from generation to generation orally. The writer Diodorus Siculus was the first to discuss the idea that there were distinct roles within the druid system, and it was Strabo who divided these into three separate classes; those who studied moral philosophy were known as the 'druidai'; the diviners and specialists in the natural world were the 'o'vateis'; and the poets and singers were the 'bardoi'. The bardoi, or bards, were responsible for passing on history in poetry and song. History always included the brave deeds of warriors as well as knowledge of the gods and the natural world.

Missile Infantry / Missile Infantry / (Gal_Karian_Skirmishers) Uazali (Karian Skirmishers) The Uazali are warbands of soldiers from the peoples of the southern coast of Asia Minor: the Karians, Lykians, Pamphylians, and Pisidians. These Uazali are skilled mountain fighters. Their name comes from the Lykian tongue, meaning Warriors," and is similar also to the words used by the other peoples along the southern coast of Asia Minor, whose languages all derive primarily from the Hittite tongue. The Uazali carry a solid rectangular shield and wear a solid Phrygian helm. For weapons, they carry several javelins and a xiphos sword, a popular weapon in Asia Minor." |

Melee Infantry / Melee Infantry / (Gal_Naked_Swordsman) Galatikoi Tindanotae (Naked Swordsmen) The Tindanotae (Ten-dan-ot-ay; Wild/Mad Men") are a product of the dying tradition of naked Celtic warriors. They are fierce, brave to the point of insanity, and able to break even well-disciplined formations with a furious charge preceded by a javelin strike. The Tindanotae can stand well in a melee, and their appearance is known to shake even the most experienced warriors. It is not unusual for Tindanotae to stand and fight until they are all dead, or their enemies are defeated." |
