Horse Ranch
A well-trained horse is worth its weight in cattle.Horses played an important role in Celtic society, both spiritually and practically. Many Roman writers freely admitted that the Celts were excellent horsemen, and they went as far as calling Celtic mercenaries the best cavalry in the Roman army. The Romans even adopted a Celtic deity in the hope that she would bestow the equine knowledge and skill of the Celts upon Rome. Epona is one of very few deities to be accepted into the Roman pantheon without change, although her role did develop over time. Eventually, she provided protection for all those who worked with horses and not just the animals themselves. She was a popular deity among the Roman cavalry, and her cult spread across Europe wherever the Romans had cavalry garrisons.

Cavalry / Missile Cavalry / (bri_irish_light_cav) Markakoi Skamno (Irish Light Cavalry) Irish horsemen are usually equipped with javelins or two gaiso spears, one for launching and another for charging, but also a longsword for close fight. Body armour is rare, but helmets are common. They are good, fast scouts, and perhaps also use so-called "Germanic" tactics, which involve light infantrymen and light cavalry attacking together. |

Cavalry / Melee Cavalry / (bri_irish_noble_cav) Markakoi Akrowiri (Irish Noble Horse) A warrior who asks to be clad in iron is either too stupid or slow to avoid the blows of his foes. Instead of shirts of mail or sleeves of iron, it is with simple cloaks bedecked by torcs of gold that these men ride down their foes. Even leather armour finds currency with only a few such men. |
