Boatyard
Taming the waters is a noble goal. The Celtic Otherworld was a paradise to which the Celts believed they travelled to after death. Many myths and legends describe it as an island, and the idea that the dead passed beyond the horizon appears in many tales. The Byzantine philosopher Procopius of Caesarea recorded the beliefs of the tribes of Gaul and stated that they believed the Otherworld to be west of Britannia - modern-day Great Britain. According to Procopius, the Gauls believed that when a person died their soul would travel to the coast. Once there, they would bang on the doors of fishermen’s homes and beg passage across the sea. The fishermen would then ferry the souls to their destination and return home, never revealing the exact location of the Otherworld.

Light Ship / Melee Ship / (Bar_Assault_Bireme_Dac) Liburna - Epilektoi Pelekuphoroi A liburna is a light war galley of Illyrian design with two rows of oarsmen, but lighter and faster than a standard bireme. Ideal for use in raiding and coastal patrol, this ship would soon be adopted by Rome and become the most common ship in later Roman fleets. (Dacian Axemen) Aside from their large contingents of Drapanai, the Pelekuphoroi are the common warriors of the Karp and Kostobok tribes. They wield bronze axes and have sturdy round shields. Their scale leather provides adequate protection against Scythian arrows and Bastarnae spears but will do little to stop a heavy, curved falx blade. These fast, hardy troops are best used in ambushes, hit-and-run attacks, or flanking manoeuvres against heavier warriors, but are fierce enough to stand in the battle line if the situation demands it. |
