Shromaždiště

Zde se ve válečném umění cvičí oddíly měšťanů, poddaných, branců a odvedenců.

V dobách válek musely helénské státy co nejrychleji vytvářet armády. Najímaly do nich měšťany, poddané i žoldnéře, zatímco velitelé byli obvykle voleni či jmenováni z řad šlechty. V Athénách sestávalo vojsko z efébů, kteří museli podstoupit výcvik, a ze starších měšťanů, které vedlo deset volených stratégů nebo ministrů války.

Původně měli být tito mužové hoplity, ale podle vzoru Alexandra velikého se z nich v nadcházejících staletích stali hypaspisté, falangité či thureoforové. Také se postupně začalo přecházet k profesionálním oddílům a jednotkám složeným ze žoldnéřů. Bohatší měšťané, kteří si mohli dovolit koně, poskytovali vojsku hippei, čili lehkou jízdu. Urozená jízda se pak opět utvářela podle alexandrijského modelu. Tato vojska pak doplňovali žoldnéři, například Thrákové, luky vyzbrojení skýtští policisté z Athén, nebo Kleopatřina galacijská královská garda.
