Those unfortunates caught within the forest when the Wild Hunt is running find a nobler purpose through sacrifice.

All Asrai are hunters, they have to be in order to survive in Athel Loren. However, Wood Elves do not hunt for sport, as it is forbidden by Kurnous. His creed states that a hunter should only kill ravening beasts or animals whose bounty of meat and hide are necessary for survival. However, when the horns of the Wild Riders are heard upon the wind this is forgotten and all Elves follow the mortal embodiment of Kurnous - Orion - into the frenzy of the Wild Hunt.
