五列槳座戰船，拉丁語為「quinquereme」，希臘語為「penteres」，在公元前398年左右首先被敘拉古人利用來對付迦太基人。就像其他的多槳戰船一樣，很有可能不是指它擁有五列槳，而「槳」是用來指代「槳手」。在這種情況下，槳手的安排應該是自下而上2-2-1。它能夠使船保持沉穩幫助維持穩定性；重心較高會導致船遭遇側面攻擊的時候容易傾覆。於是從外觀和戰鬥價值來看，五列槳座戰船非常強大。船上載著大型戰鬥部隊並有很大的甲板空間，這艘重艦足以應對大部分敵人和威脅。

From their position on the Nile, the Kushite Nubians profoundly influenced the world around them. They have an impressive history from their tribal beginnings, through their time as part of the New Kingdom of Egypt to the rise of their own empire, when the kingdom – or Kush – extended across large tracts of southern Egypt. They repelled multiple Roman advances, and even survived the sacking of their capital during the 1st century BC. Though their kingdom declined in late antiquity, the Kushites remained a geopolitical and military force to be reckoned with and were never absorbed into the Roman Empire. They were famed for their formidable archers, with man and bow working as one.
