用地下水道将溪流或河水引至城镇，敌人便无法阻断供应。其出口与源头皆小心隐藏，敌人无法截断，也不能下毒，这一技术使希腊的大小城市长久以来屹立不倒。

建于公元前六世纪欧帕里诺斯水道，将一处隐蔽的溪流与萨摩斯城相连通，这一巧妙设计使其声名大振。全长仅一公里的地道是从两头相向挖掘而成，准确实现地下定位显示了挖掘小队超凡的地理知识
