Казармы голосидеров

Спешно построенные лагеря готовят изнеженных людей к тяготам военной жизни.

На смену века героев, когда исход сражения зависел от индивидуальной доблести и мастерства, пришла эпоха организованной и обученной армии. Конфликты между городами-государствами становились все ожесточеннее, росла и внешняя угроза. Первые гоплиты в греческой армии появились примерно в 700 г. до н.э. Это были свободные граждане, которые выступали в бою в качестве пехоты. Они сами покупали себе доспехи и оружие. Единой формы не было, и бойцы носили украшенные семейными гербами щиты и доспехи, передавая их из поколения в поколение. Отличительной особенностью гоплитов был большой круглый щит. Держали его таким образом, что он защищал не только хозяина, но и воина слева от него. Строй гоплитов со временем превратился в знаменитую фалангу, которая сплошной стеной шла на врага.
