王室兵舎
The training and quartering of elite troops requires the proper surroundings. After the age of heroes, when fighting had been about individual valour and battles a brawl rather than a planned encounter, armies were organised into disciplined units. With conflicts between the city-states on the rise, and threats from the outside world, the Greeks created the first hoplites around 700BC. These were free citizens, fighting as infantry who provided their own armour and weapons. There was no standard equipment and these soldiers carried shields and armour emblazoned with family symbols handed down over generations. However, the name 'hoplite' derived from the one piece of equipment they did have in common: the hoplon shield. This circular shield was held so as to protect not only the bearer but also the man to his left. As a single mass, hoplites moved in the famous phalanx formation, marching towards the enemy as one solid wall.

Melee Infantry / パイク歩兵 / (Gre_Spar_Thorax_Hoplites) Neohomoioi Hoplitai (Reformed Spartan Hoplites) Due to the dwindling Spartan citizen population, late Spartan rulers have needed to increase the amount of avaliable soldiers through social reforms. Increased manpower and the return of old martial traditions like the Agoge are bringing back the old strength of Sparta. |

Cavalry / 飛び道具騎兵 / (Gre_Spartan_Cav) Homoioi Hippeis (Spartan Cavalry) Sparta is not famous for its cavalry, but it fields some nonetheless. The job of fighting on horseback is relegated to those unfit for the phalanx or as a form on punishment, but their expenses are paid by the wealthier citizens. Due to a lack of proper training and cavalry traditions, these horsemen generally perform poorly. |

Melee Infantry / 槍歩兵 / (Gre_Spartan_Helots) Heilotes (Spartan Helots) Helots are the slaves of the Spartan kingdom. During times of need, the state arms them with weapons and basic means of protection. Their training is limited so that they do not pose a larger threat after the campaign. |

Cavalry / 近接騎兵 / (Gre_Spartan_Lancers) Symmachoi Hippeis (Allied Cavalry) Even Sparta has noticed the importance of cavalry on the battlefield. Instead of trying to develop their own cavalry ethos, the later kings of Sparta rely on more skilled allies and mercenaries to provide reliable horsemen. |

Melee Infantry / パイク歩兵 / (Gre_Spartan_Pike) Neohomoioi Phalangitai (Spartan Pikemen) A hundred years after the defeat of classical Greek troops at Chaeronea, Cleomenes III would decide to add a pike corps to his own armies. This change would not have been possible without the corresponding social reforms increasing the available manpower of the Spartan state. |

Melee Infantry / 槍歩兵 / (Gre_Spartan_Youths) Spartiatai Epheboi (Spartan Youths) Young Spartans, not yet ready to fight in a proper phalanx, are tasked with chasing off skirmishers in battle. Their tactics are one inspiration for the Iphicratean reforms of heavier peltasts. Due to their lighter equipment and extensive training, they are able to catch up with light units of other nations - not many can outrun them. |
