Barbarian Hamlet (Salt)

During periods of strife and war, it is sometimes necessary to call upon ordinary citizens to organize as militia. Called Lugoae, militia in Celtic societies are farmers, craftsmen, fishermen, and so on, called to brief military service in periods of crisis. They may train a few times a year to fight, and games and sports encourage a decent level of physicality, but they're still only militia, and can only be trusted to do so much.

In Celtic society, the peasants are not slaves. They have civil rights, but also a harsh life in service to the warrior class. These levies are not a fighting force, but follow the army if the tribe's territory is threatened, and if the druids give them favourable omens.

These are hardy men, born of the soil, and to the soil they are wed. In southern lands, the farmers are weak folk, but here in Iuernion, a land of magic, mirth and myth, they are as steadfast as the oak. How could a man not be steadfast in the face of those who would steal his herds and enslave his family?

Slingers are very common and form a large part of the Irish infantry. In fact, they are devastating on the battlefield, but easy prey in case of counterattack, especially by cavalry. They typically accompany the central formation and open the battle, weakening the enemy's front ranks before the main shock.

Baggage Train
Baggage trains, if attached to an army, grant additional supplies for a limited number of turns, varying for each campaign based on turns per year. A baggage train can supply armies even under harsh weather conditions, and is vital for prolonged military campaigns.
