Grâce aux pratiques tribales consistant à faire des offrandes votives aux dieux des rivières et des passages fluviaux, beaucoup d'artefacts de bronze furent découverts au fond des lacs et des rivières partout en Europe. Tout comme le casque, le bouclier de Battersea était probablement un objet de cérémonie : intact, aucun signe ne semble démontrer qu'il fut attaché à une base de bois, ce qui lui aurait donné la force requise pour affronter le champ de bataille.

They are especially large and broad, with a narrow point, making them useful both for thrusting and slashing. The long handle allows these swords perhaps to be used with two hands. These swordsmen are the bread and butter of any Boian battle line, acting as its main assault infantry alongside the axemen.
