Barbarian Village (Purple Dye)

The village is the heart of the people.

Roman and Greek historians often described the barbarian tribes as wandering people who lived for the hunt and knew little of farming and construction. Nothing could be further from the truth. A number of structures have been discovered that show that so-called 'barbarians' had a firm grasp of building techniques and were able to construct homes and defences that have survived for thousands of years. Brochs, dry stone buildings found in Scotland, survived the harsh weather and provide interesting information about the people who built them. Many were multi-storey dwellings and historians still debate their use: some believe they were defensive structures; others argue they may have been prestige buildings, symbols of wealth and power.

Kirslininkas
(Baltic Light Axemen)

The western Balts know and use iron, and are wealthy from the amber trade. Thus, they are probably able to field a regular army in times of need. Armed with iron-tipped spears and battle axes, the Kirslininkas (Axemen) take part in the wars and battles of the northern lands.

Perkwunas
(Baltic Clubmen)

The warriors in this unit are not necessarily poor, but rather choose to fight with the club instead of the spear. Most are armed with a wooden club, but some prefer an axe of the socketed variety. For protection, these warriors only use a lightweight wooden shield. Some have a reinforced metal shield boss and some metal shield rim protection, but most do not.

Nakwadaz
(Eastern Germanic Medium Skirmishers)

These naked spearmen are the Germanic replica of the Gaisates, except that they use more crude weapons, the framea being too expensive and heavy to be carried by a skirmisher. However, they are still heavy skirmishers, relying on their speed to outflank the enemy, before launching their missiles in the hope of causing disarray within the enemy ranks. They fight nude or half-nude to preserve freedom of movement, and keep a framea for close combat if needed.

Melee Infantry / Hoplite/Pike Infantry / (Ger_Lugii_Pikemen)
Gaizaharjoz
(Eastern Germanic Pikemen)

Gaizaharjoz are very disciplined warriors who fight in a dense formation. They use a Germanic lance - the Speutan, a deadly and intimidating weapon with a very long spearhead. During their years of constant battle with hostile nations, they've developed new strategies for combat and defense, and learned early on to form an impenetrable burdahagon (shield-wall) to repel their attackers.

Baggage Train
Baggage trains, if attached to an army, grant additional supplies for a limited number of turns, varying for each campaign based on turns per year. A baggage train can supply armies even under harsh weather conditions, and is vital for prolonged military campaigns.
