Warrior Lodge

An artistic eye can be useful and profitable.

Many Roman writers attempted to reduce the Celts to a crude people who lived for war and little else. When describing the Celts of the Po Valley, Polybius commented that “their lives are very simple, and they had no knowledge whatsoever of art or science”. Due to archaeological finds we know this to be an oversimplification of a very complex society, and beautiful examples of Celtic art found all over Europe tell a very different story. Items like the Gundestrup Cauldron and the Desborough Mirror show that the Celts had excellent metalworking skills, an artistic eye and the ability to tell stories through their art. The intricate detail on the cauldron was preserved by the peat bog in which it was discovered. The glass used in the figures' eyes gives us some idea of the excellent artistic and craft abilities of the men who made the Cauldron.

Katpatuka Zanteush
(Cappadocian Skirmishers)

These fierce tribesmen come from the ancient land of Cappadocia, called Katpatuka" by the Hittities - "land of the beautiful horses". The tribal warriors raised in the mountains of Cappadocia know the terrain and are well-equipped for mountain warfare with javelin and axe. They are not as effective away from these heights, as they lack the heavier armour of the Greek infantry. Their axes and javelins will allow them to give a good account of themselves but heavy melee should be avoided."

Anatolikoi Phyletai
(Anatolian Axemen)

These troops are armed with a large axe in addition to a wooden, crescent-shaped shield similar to the old Greek Pelte. They favour bright clothing and often paint their shields in garish colours. Their charge is dangerous for most enemies and even the stoutest armour will suffer from their axes. However, being lightly protected themselves, their casualties will mount if they are engaged in a protracted melee.

Uazali
(Karian Skirmishers)

The Uazali are warbands of soldiers from the peoples of the southern coast of Asia Minor: the Karians, Lykians, Pamphylians, and Pisidians. These Uazali are skilled mountain fighters. Their name comes from the Lykian tongue, meaning Warriors," and is similar also to the words used by the other peoples along the southern coast of Asia Minor, whose languages all derive primarily from the Hittite tongue. The Uazali carry a solid rectangular shield and wear a solid Phrygian helm. For weapons, they carry several javelins and a xiphos sword, a popular weapon in Asia Minor."

200 Trocmii Gaesatae
Melee Infantry / Melee Infantry / (gal_light_elite_swordsmen)
Trocmii Gaesatae
(Trocmii Elite Warriors)

The Trocmii are one of the three ancient tribes of Galatia. They fight mostly naked to emphasise their own ferocity and utter lack of fear. Scars and tattoos adorn their skin, and they let their hair grow wild. They carry only spears and shields, and have practically no discipline, but they can cause heavy casualties to most enemies.
