Barbarian Pagus (Salt)
Riches grow when people work together.Roman and Greek historians often described the barbarian tribes as wandering people who lived for the hunt and knew little of farming and construction. Nothing could be further from the truth. A number of structures have been discovered that show that so-called 'barbarians' had a firm grasp of building techniques and were able to construct homes and defences that have survived for thousands of years. Brochs, dry stone buildings found in Scotland, survived the harsh weather and provide interesting information about the people who built them. Many were multi-storey dwellings and historians still debate their use: some believe they were defensive structures; others argue they may have been prestige buildings, symbols of wealth and power.

Melee Infantry / Spear Infantry / (AOR_4_Belgae_Levies) Eburonae Lugoae (Belgae Levies) During periods of strife and war, it is sometimes necessary to call upon ordinary citizens to organize as militia. Called Lugoae, militia in Celtic societies are farmers, craftsmen, fishermen, and so on, called to brief military service in periods of crisis. They may train a few times a year to fight, and games and sports encourage a decent level of physicality, but they're still only militia, and can only be trusted to do so much. |

Shunning the comforts often afforded the members of 'civilised' states, they pride themselves on their rugged way of life, their toughness of mind and body, and their skill at arms. |

Melee Infantry / Melee Infantry / (AOR_9_Italy_Taurisci_Axemen) Taurisci Securiferi (Taurisci Axemen) One of the last Ligurian tribes to survive the Boii and Gallic invasions and assimilation, the Taurisci survive in central Italy. Seen as barbarians by the Romans and most of the southern Italic civilisations, they are equipped with a scutum, javelins, and a deadly light axe, similar to the Illyrian and Venetian tribes. These axemen are renowned as assault infantry. |

Missile Infantry / Missile Infantry / (Ger_scandinavian_Skirmishers) Sitones Swajut (Scandinavian Skirmishers) The Sitones are a Germanic or Finnic people who reside just above the Suiones (Swedes). It is said that these people are very much like the Suiones, except they are ruled by a woman, which goes against the Germanic custom. Each warrior is armed with a bundle of throwing spears, a slightly longer spear for melee, and a stout ovular shield, but they do not wear armour. |

Melee Infantry / Spear Infantry / (Ger_scandinavian_Spearmen) Suiones Druhtiz (Scandinavian Spearmen) From lands with a harsh climate in eastern Svealand, these people are accustomed to fighting every day for their own survival. In warfare it is up to each man to prove his own bravery and worth, so their uniquely savage charge into the enemy enables them to perform slightly better than their neighbours in that respect. |

Melee Infantry / Melee Infantry / (Ger_Sloxonez) Slaganz (Germanic Clubmen) Although the club is a crude and primitive weapon, it is still widely used by many nations throughout the known world. A club is efficient against shields, and especially any unit in a shieldwall, the most common tactic of any Celtic army. Suebi clubmen use a light, one-handed club, so they can carry and throw javelins at the same time. |

Melee Infantry / Hoplite/Pike Infantry / (Ger_Speudogordoz) Markamannoz Speutagardaz (Markamannoz Pikemen) The Markamannoz are a famous tribe, warlike but organised on the battlefield. Among the elites, they have famous spearmen, the Speutagardaz. They are skilled enough to form impressive shieldwalls with five meter long spears, a rather unusual feature. Speutagardaz use long spears with a short and narrow head. They are well equipped, probably having light axes, reinforced leather armor, and a leather and scale helmet, which is lighter and cheaper than the usual iron helmet, but highly protective. |

Cavalry / Melee Cavalry / (Supply_Barbarian) Baggage Train Baggage trains, if attached to an army, grant additional supplies for a limited number of turns, varying for each campaign based on turns per year.
