Medewi (Imperator Augustus) Minor Settlement (Grain) Level 2
Eastern Village
An established village, growing by hard toil and devout effort.Small farming settlements were the backbone of ancient civilisations in the east, feeding the great cities such as Antioch and Seleucia. Situated to exploit good land, fishing, mining or quarrying, defence was often too expensive to be more than a secondary consideration. As the populations of the great cities increased, surplus food from these farming communities became essential. As small military garrisons were positioned to protect valuable resources and trade routes, there was a slow growth of many hamlets into towns, as people and trade passed.

Melee Infantry / Melee Infantry / (afr_mer_light_melee_inf) Bilit'ti Sayif (Ethiopian Swordmen) These swordsmen are equipped only with helmets and shields, as body armor would just burden a soldier in the hot climate. They are elite troops, and can be expected to fulfil their role as assault infantry as long as they are properly used. |

Missile Infantry / Missile Infantry / (AOR_10_Dart_Slingers) Kestrosphendones (Dart Slingers) The kestros is a dart thrown by a specially made sling, or propelled by a staff on a sling. It takes a long time to reload, but allows for more deadly and accurate shots than any other weapon of the time if correctly used, thanks to the shape of the darts, which can fly straight and precise trajectories. This weapon is mentioned in a Polybian account about new weapons in the army of Perseus, shortly before the last open confrontation between the Macedonians and the Roman Republic (169-168 BCE)."""" |
