Eastern Village (Trained Slaves)

An established village, growing by hard toil and devout effort.

Small farming settlements were the backbone of ancient civilisations in the east, feeding the great cities such as Antioch and Seleucia. Situated to exploit good land, fishing, mining or quarrying, defence was often too expensive to be more than a secondary consideration. As the populations of the great cities increased, surplus food from these farming communities became essential. As small military garrisons were positioned to protect valuable resources and trade routes, there was a slow growth of many hamlets into towns, as people and trade passed.

With their raiding and contacts with the Greeks, they use more xiphos swords and Chalcidian helmets than their northeastern neighbours.

This eastern coastal tribe is also made up of fishermen and merchants, and is one of the most Hellenised and prosperous Thracian kingdoms, due to their immediate contact with some Greek harbour colonies.

These soldiers are armoured in quilted linen and carry large Persian wicker shields as a form of light manoeuvrable defence."

9	175	Missile Infantry / Missile Infantry / (Cap_Slingers) Shuban-i Katpatukan (Cappadocian Slingers) In battle, slingers are used as light skirmishers who rush forward against the enemy to pepper them with stones, only to flee when threatened. Slingers come from the shepherd boys of the highlands who use slings to herd sheep and goats. They stand guard in the upland pastures, and if they see an animal straying, they sling a stone in front of it to ward it back to safety.
