Aksum (Imperator Augustus) Minor Settlement (Purple Dye) Level 2
Eastern Village
An established village, growing by hard toil and devout effort.Small farming settlements were the backbone of ancient civilisations in the east, feeding the great cities such as Antioch and Seleucia. Situated to exploit good land, fishing, mining or quarrying, defence was often too expensive to be more than a secondary consideration. As the populations of the great cities increased, surplus food from these farming communities became essential. As small military garrisons were positioned to protect valuable resources and trade routes, there was a slow growth of many hamlets into towns, as people and trade passed.

Melee Infantry / Spear Infantry / (Afr_Levy_Spear) Hanatim Kushim (African Levy Spearmen) These men are equipped with spears, shields and helmets of varying quality depending on who levied them. These spearmen can be expected to perform well as light line infantry, but their lack of armor means they will have problems facing more heavily equipped infantry, and might be at a disadvantage against missile troops firing from an angle not covered by their shields. |
