Bronzeschmelzofen

Feuer zerstört, aber es kann auch erschaffen.

Für Stämme war es üblich, Flussgöttern Weihgaben darzubringen, und so fand man zahlreiche Bronzegegenstände auf dem Grund von Seen und Flüssen in ganz Europa. Die englische Themse musste für die dortigen Stämme von besonderer Bedeutung gewesen sein, so viele Bronzearbeiten fand man im Verlauf der Jahre darin. Im Jahre 1868 fand man den Waterloo-Helm, einen zeremoniellen Helm mit zwei Hörnern, und auch die Wandsworth- und Battersea-Schilde konnten aus dem Fluss geborgen werden. Die Stücke befinden sich heute im British Museum. Ähnlich wie den Helm hält man auch den Battersea-Schild für einen zeremoniellen Gegenstand: Man konnte keinen Kampfschaden daran feststellen, und auch keine Anzeichen für eine Holzbasis, die nötig gewesen wäre, um das Schild im Kampf zu verwenden.

They are famous for their use of sheering curved swords that can cause an opponent terrible gashes, and are known to use the skulls of their enemies as drinking cups. Like the Solduros of the Gauls, in the East the Scordisci have the Cordinau Orca (Kor-dee-now Urk-ah; Battle Boars), the guardians of their chief, and fearsome, strong warriors. The Scordisci are a rather extroverted Celtic people; they are so cosmopolitan that their enemies think them Thracians or Illyrians.

4	300	Nahkampfinfanterie / Nahkampfinfanterie / (Cel_Karotovas) Karotovas (Fighting Men) The Karotovas are wealthy tribal warriors heralding from the regions around the southern Baltic Sea. The possession of armour or iron weapons is unusual among the tribes who inhabit this area, and in this regard the Karotovas are unique. They carry well-made unique slashing swords, and can hit with a powerful - albeit disorderly - charge. As they are somewhat undisciplined, they often disregard notions of prudence and can charge at their own will.

5	175	Geschossinfanterie / Geschossinfanterie / (cel_tyl_archers) Saitores (Celtic Archers) These archers are peasants recruited from local hunters; they are experienced and equipped with short swords. They are more sturdy than ordinary peasant levies, and they usually fight at the forefont before the main clash, softening the enemy ranks.

6	200	Nahkampfinfanterie / Pikeninfanterie / (cel_tyl_champions) Cauaros (Early Celtic Champions) The Cauaros are the most skilled, famous, recognised, and powerful warriors of the Celts. During the Halstatt age, they were mostly heavy swordsmen, but their fighting techniques began to change, and they now favour the spear and close formation.

7	200	Nahkampfinfanterie / Pikeninfanterie / (cel_tyl_footguards) Ambactes (Celtic Chosen Bodyguards) These really impressive warriors are in fact clients and bodyguards, chosen by and attached to a noble. In general terms, the Ambactes are chosen from the best in the warrior class and attached, possibly to the death, to their master, benefitting from his wealth. They are probably the very first in the warrior class to dream about buying chainmail.

They can afford expensive chainmail with a surcoat of mail for adding protection to the shoulders and chest. Only the king and nobles of very high lineage could expect to enlist some of these warriors as soldiers. It is not unusual for these Uercingetes to have their own Ambactes.

9	300	Nahkampfinfanterie / Nahkampfinfanterie / (cel_tyl_light_swordsmen) Excinges (Celtic Light Infantry) These light troops are called "those who march out" of the main army. They are brave and well-equipped, but not heavily armoured, because agility is the key of their tactics. They march on the wings of the main battleline, ready to take quick flanking manoeuvers, ambushes, and other tactical moves.

They are battle-hardened and experienced warriors, and carry two heavy javelins and a longsword.

11	175	Geschossinfanterie / Geschossinfanterie / (cel_tyl_medium_skirm) Gaballocos (Celtic Medium Skirmishers) These fast warriors are specially trained to launch a short-range, but devastating weapon: the gaballa. It is designed, like a heavy pilum, to pierce any shield or armour, as well as injuring or killing any enemy fighters counterattacking the light forward troops.

12	300	Nahkampfinfanterie / Pikeninfanterie / (cel_tyl_medium_spearmen) Cingetes (Professional Spearmen) These professional spearmen, literally "those who march together," are the backbone of the Celtic infantry line. Well-disciplined and well-equipped as warriors, they use a long lancia (three meter-long spear), and a longsword as a melee weapon. They wear a helmet but no armour, or perhaps an affordable leather jacket under their tunic.

They are posted to the rear of the army, and then moved to the forefront during the "tumultus gallicus" which precedes the assault.

14	200	Nahkampfinfanterie / Nahkampfinfanterie / (cel_tylis_heavy_swordsmen) Skordiskoi Spathephoroi (Scordisci Swordsmen) Spathephoroi (swordbearers) are common longsword warriors: well protected, agile, and tremendously aggressive. They are fierce and fearless opponents for peoples not regarded as especially tender themselves, including their Thracian neighbours.
