Bronzeschmiede

Ein Krieger braucht eine Waffe, auf die er sich verlassen kann.

Für Stämme war es üblich, Flussgöttern Weihgaben darzubringen, und so fand man zahlreiche Bronzegegenstände auf dem Grund von Seen und Flüssen in ganz Europa. Die englische Themse musste für die dortigen Stämme von besonderer Bedeutung gewesen sein, so viele Bronzearbeiten fand man im Verlauf der Jahre darin. Im Jahre 1868 fand man den Waterloo-Helm, einen zeremoniellen Helm mit zwei Hörnern, und auch die Wandsworth- und Battersea-Schilde konnten aus dem Fluss geborgen werden. Die Stücke befinden sich heute im British Museum. Ähnlich wie den Helm hält man auch den Battersea-Schild für einen zeremoniellen Gegenstand: Man konnte keinen Kampfschaden daran feststellen, und auch keine Anzeichen für eine Holzbasis, die nötig gewesen wäre, um das Schild im Kampf zu verwenden.

3	300	Nahkampfinfanterie / Nahkampfinfanterie / (Dac_Axemen) Komatai Pelekuphoroi (Dacian Axemen) Aside from their large contingents of Drapanai, the Pelekuphoroi are the common warriors of the Karp and Kostobok tribes. They wield bronze axes and have sturdy round shields. Their scale leather provides adequate protection against Scythian arrows and Bastarnae spears but will do little to stop a heavy, curved falx blade. These fast, hardy troops are best used in ambushes, hit-and-run attacks, or flanking manoeuvres against heavier warriors, but are fierce enough to stand in the battle line if the situation demands it.

7	300	Nahkampfinfanterie / Nahkampfinfanterie / (Dac_Costoboci_Hillmen) Costoboci Pelekephoroi (Costoboci Axemen) The Costoboci are northern Dacians, who have been isolated for a long in the southern Carpathians, protecting the Dacians against the western Celtic invaders and the fierce Bastarnae over the mountains. They are hardy mountaineers, but too poor to afford better equipment than weapons like wooden-tipped javelins and shock weapons like the battleaxe.

8	175	Geschossinfanterie / Geschossinfanterie / (Dac_Elite_Archers) Komatai Agrianai (Elite Dacian Archers) These men are wealthy Komatai drawn from the Getic tribes dwelling along the Karpathes. They wear studded leather armour and trousers and are armed with bows. Their incessant fighting in more recent years against migrating Celtic tribes led many of them to adopt the Celtic-style longsword, which makes them deadly when closing in for the kill. Unlike most other archers though, these men can perform well in close combat, although they are most effective against weakened, exposed, or tired foes.

9	200	Nahkampfinfanterie / Nahkampfinfanterie / (Dac_Elite_Falxmen) Epilektoi Drapanai (Dacian Elite Falxmen) These very skilled falxmen are the chosen men from the Drapanai units. Well protected, but more agile than the late Roman legionaries, these elites use the terrific cutting power of their falxes to disrupt the enemy lines, or to exploit the gap created by the regular Drapanai.

12	256	Nahkampfinfanterie / Pikeninfanterie / (Dac_Heavy_Phalanx) Komatai Thorakitai Stratiotai (Dacian Heavy Pikemen) These are the rank-and-file of the Getic professional troops, raised once the Getic state reached a strong level of organisation. They are well adapted to dense forested areas, thus their cohesion does not suffer from fighting in rough terrain when in close formation. These warriors wear mail shirts, and Phrygian helmets over their traditional wool shirts and trousers, befitting their status as professionals.

They have adapted the use of phalanxes and tortoise formations, and fight with a reinforced and wide thureos shield, leather armour, and a bronze helmet.

These late elite infantrymen are actually inspired by roman legionary warfare. They are protected by leather scale armour, chainmail, and simply designed helmets.

They wear the typical spangenhelm and scaled armour, and are nobles or a chosen elite."

16	300	Nahkampfinfanterie / Nahkampfinfanterie / (Dac_Shock_Infantry) Drapanai (Falxmen) The Drapanai contingents are made up of resolute warriors, well aware of their role as shock troops on the battlefield. While the average Getic soldier tells himself he is immortal, more than any others the Drapanai join battle without fear of death. They fight bare-chested, wearing only trousers. Their trademark though is the falx, a vicious blade capable of severing limbs and causing horrible wounds with a single, crushing blow. Their lack of armour is a drawback against concentrated enemy missile fire, so they should not be exposed to enemy ranged attacks needlessly.

17	175	Geschossinfanterie / Geschossinfanterie / (Dac_Slingers) Komatai Sphendonetai (Dacian Slingers) These skirmishers are a valuable addition to any Dacian army and can perform superbly in rough terrain. They carry no armour to speak of, except small round shields, and are armed with slings and a dagger. They are usually very young men and their role is merely to try and force the enemy into acting rashly; however, troops lacking armour can still pay dearly facing when them.
