Räuberhafen

„Wir werden sie lehren, das Wasser zu fürchten!“

Die keltische Vorstellung vom Jenseits war die eines Paradieses, in das sie nach ihrem Tod gelangten. Viele Mythen und Legenden beschreiben es als Insel, und viele Erzählungen handeln davon, wie die Toten über den Horizont hinausgehen. Der byzantinische Philosoph Prokopios von Caesarea beschrieb den Glauben der gallischen Stämme und berichtet, dass dieses Jenseits westlich von Britannien - dem heutigen Großbritannien - liegt. Prokopios zufolge glaubten Gallier, die Seele würde nach dem Tod zur Küste reisen. Dort würde sie an die Türen von Fischersleuten klopfen und um die Überfahrt über das Meer bitten. Die Fischer würden dann die Seelen an ihr Ziel bringen und nach Hause zurückkehren, wobei sie die genaue Lage des Jenseits niemals preisgaben.
