Slav Royal Cavalry
The king must be defended at all times, perhaps at the cost of all their lives. The Slavs are first mentioned in Byzantine records of the 6th century AD, referred to as the "Sclaveni and Antae" from beyond the Carpathian mountains. Historians believe that the myriad Slavic tribes originated mostly in Central Europe, possibly from along the southern shores of the Baltic Sea. The Byzantine Roman scholar Procopius called them strong, tall, and possessed of a neutral temperament that was "neither cruel nor disrespectful". They reminded him of the Huns and he noted how they mostly went into battle armed but not armoured, decrying any overlords stating "others do not conquer our lands, we conquer theirs". Much later, when Samo, a Frankish merchant-turned-warlord ruled the Slavs, he provided them with weapons and armour to battle the marauding Avars. His unification of the tribes also inadvertently laid the foundation for the Slavic states to come, as he brought their ideals and culture together at the same time.
